Our sewing shop was founded in December 2003, and its field of activity is the care of the homeless. In the first period, we made warm blankets, which consist of three layers. The top layer is made of fabric cubes, the bottom layer is made of the donated material and in between them is a waterproof material that is heat and water insulating. We also manufacture waist warmers, underpants, warm gloves and hats. During the period since our foundation, our activity has expanded. For our institutions, we make bedspreads, wall protector, curtains, costumes, kindergarten bags, and anything on demand. We sew work clothes, T-shirts and aprons for our own employees. Our shop employs two people, it’s well-equipped, we have an industrial sewing machine, an interlock, a cover machine and a household sewing machine.
Donations received by the Oltalom Charity Society will be sorted in the clothing store according to the following criteria:
we primarily serve our homeless people living in the “Heated Street”
we take care of the supply of clothing to our hospital patients
we also provide blankets, clothes and shoes for the homeless living on the streets in the 5th district
Clothing is distributed twice a week:
Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11.30 p.m.
Naturally, in a crisis situation, we help at all times.
The donations that remain after the selection, but can still be used, will be distributed to those in need living in the countryside, this area is mainly Northeast Hungary.
Donations also include clothing that we can neither distribute nor give to those in need. These are handed over to the workers in the sewing shop, who make warm blankets, underpants and waist warmers.
Our sewing shop employs 3 people, we have a volunteer helper twice a week for 4 hours a day, and a psychiatric patient helps us with our work.
