2022-02-25Support for refugees fleeing Ukraine through our church
2022-03-09Resolution of the General Assembly of our Church, the Hungarian Evangelical Fellowship (HEF) on the Russian-Ukrainian war affecting the whole world
We are deeply shocked to learn that Russia has attacked the independent Republic of Ukraine, despite attempts for a peaceful settlement. Prior to this, Russia had torn away two Ukrainian counties to create new states that it then recognized. Russia tried to convince the world that these “countries”, which it considers independent, needed the “help” that only Russia can provide. The Hungarian Evangelical Fellowship is on the side of those who insist on the freedom of Ukraine andwho want to preserve their independence and national values.
The idea that there is a significant Hungarian and other minorities living in Ukraine, who are even more threatened and worn down by the war, also weighs on our hearts. The church calls on Hungary’s current government to do their utmost to stop the war immediately and return to peaceful solutions, in cooperation with the international forums to which Hungary has committed itself by treaty (EU, NATO, UN, etc.).
The church assures its Ukrainian brethren that as we havedelivered medical equipment in the past, we are now ready to provide similar support.
The Hungarian Evangelical Fellowship trusts in the sanity of the community of nations, in the courage of the people, and calls on them to do their utmost to safeguard the peace of a free and independent Ukraine.
